The new PIXMA MX range from Canon offers various advantages over the MP range. The MX range offers four color print unlike the MP range printers. For your black texts, it has a unique, pigmented blank ink. It enhances the quality of your printed black text. This range especially fulfils the requirements of the SOHO market.
Like all other Canon printers, this one too is slick and stylish. The PIXMA MX850 is a multi functional machine. It’s done in shades of grey and black, which gives it quite a trendy look. The printer has an Automatic Document Feeder or the ADF. While performing a job, the ADF can work on both the sides of the paper. This means that if you are trying to make a photocopy, you can actually have the copy of the original on both the sides (duplex copying). But all this takes time; you cannot have it done in a second or two. This is so because the ink takes some time to dry up.
When the printer is working in duplex mode, it prints on one side and then waits for some 10 seconds before it can proceed to its next job. A 20 side print job in black text will take around nine minutes. This thus becomes a bit time consuming and this is the prime reason as to why people prefer single sided printing. More than saving resources, people are keener on saving time.
The machine is quite wide and deep and it has a big control panel which occupies almost whole of its width in the front. The control panel has many controls like the quick dial buttons. There is a number pad which is used for phone dialing. The printer also has a fax facility. Before you print your pictures, you can actually preview them on the 62 mm LCD display screen. There’s a navigation ring which is very easy to use in contrast to the click dial of the PIXMA MP printers.
This multifunctional machine can print, copy and scan effectively. You can get the photographs on your memory card printed directly using the MX850 printer as it supports almost all the memory card formats. You can even connect your camera directly to the printer using the PictBridge socket which is especially meant for this purpose. You can even get the photographs from your DVD’s and CD’s printed directly; there is a separate holder for this.
The Canon MX850 uses a feed tray or a cartridge for printing purposes. They both can hold up to 25 photo blanks or about 150 sheets of paper. The print quality is great, whether it’s the black text or colored; and there isn’t much ink scattering. The photographs are also quite good, though their quality may not be as good as the one from the PIXMA MP six color printers.
This canon printer is quite affordable. Once you have it, it’s likely to stay with you for a long period of time. The printer’s heads last a life time. However you will need to buy ink cartridges on a regular basis and one should always go for the original Canon ink cartridges. They are reasonably priced and one page of black ink print approximates to 1.8p and colored print to 2.2p.
All in all, the PIXMA MX850 from Canon is multifunctional machine. It can print, scan and copy. It has some great features like photo printing directly from memory card, direct photo print from CDs and DVDs. Fax facility is also there. Its only downside is its duplex printing which takes quite a lot of time. This is the perfect printer for anyone who’s looking for quality printing!
