Michael Jordan

It would be incredibly difficult to find someone of any cognitive age who doesn’t know who Michael Jordan happens to be. The man has proven himself to be an idol and an icon to so many different areas of life. Just his name alone symbolizes success and some level of power. You’ll hear arguments about who really is the best basketball player of all time, but no matter who you will vote for, you’ll have to admit that Michael Jordan was one of very best things that ever happened to the world of professional basketball. Gone are the days of the exciting Chicago Bulls games. Gone are the days of watching the infamous Michael Jordan slam dunk yet another ball. However, the days of reminiscing about his greatness will last for years and years to come.

I will never, ever forget watching the Olympics in the summer of 1992. It was the first time that professional basketball players were allowed to even compete in the Olympics. Thus, the original Dream Team was formed, probably the greatest ever formulated, and Michael Jordan carried the American team to an undefeated gold medal. The excitement from those games was simply powerful. I highly doubt that anyone has ever cheered for another Olympics basketball team as much as they cheered in 1992. His popularity simply continued to grow after that accomplishment.

One of the things that people seemed to love about Michael Jordan, and still love, is the fact that he seems like a genuinely down to earth and kind person. Rarely did you ever see him make a face of discontentment or anger. Sure, he had some gambling problems and other issues tended to surface. But, he’s only human and celebrities are picked out for their imperfections a lot faster than the average human being.

Such was a love for Michael Jordan that companies were knocking on his door asking for him to endorse their products. Nike wanted to create a sneaker that was named after him. He appeared in commercials, in magazine advertisements, and on billboards. He gave acting a shot, tried his luck in other sports and overall, simply enjoyed learning about life as much as possible. You cannot say that he hasn’t given almost anything a try. His love for people and sports is undeniable and will always show in anything he does. Even after his father’s tragic death and through some false allegations, his love for life always prevailed. He is truly an amazing individual and has accomplished more in his lifetime than most people can only dream about. His name will go down in history as the greatest basketball player of all time and someone who gave every ounce of himself to whatever it was that had captured his attention.
